# Particle surfaces

Modified 8 November 2026: converted assembled visual meshes to 14,400 sampled
surface points per sculpture, normalized and quantized for this illustration.
Only the derived point clouds are distributed here; original simulation meshes,
textures and tools are not loaded by the website.

- `atlas.bin`: DRC-era Atlas v4 and MultiSense head, from OpenAI Roboschool
  `c8ee2812207ef620af618b065eca3bde10f5823c`, originally OSRF DRCSim
  `020259c1a12f5cb12fe0dc5151fdbd5a2edbeb68`. The original model package
declarations specify Apache-2.0; corresponding DAE files were hash-verified
  against OSRF. See `licenses/atlas_description-package.xml`,
  `multisense_sl_description-package.xml`, `atlas-Apache-2.0.txt`,
  `osrf-drcsim-README.md` and `roboschool-LICENSE.md`.
- `spot.bin`: Boston Dynamics Spot simulation model, BSD-3-Clause, copyright
Clearpath Robotics. See `licenses/boston_dynamics_spot-LICENSE` and README.
- `arm.bin`: UR5e simulation model, BSD-3-Clause, copyright ROS Industrial
  Consortium. See `licenses/universal_robots_ur5e-LICENSE` and README.
- `drone.bin`: Skydio X2 simulation model, Apache-2.0. Upstream README credits
Skydio for the model assets; its exact license text is retained. See
  `licenses/skydio_x2-LICENSE` and README.
Modification: removed the source's flat spinning-rotor display discs and
substituted original two-blade propeller geometry at the existing motors.
Chassis/arms/motors remain sampled from the original mesh. Illustrative blue
body material separates it from the metal propellers; it is not factory paint.
- `optimus.bin`: detailed “Tesla Optimus Gen 3” artist exterior by Michael /
gmmichaelonearth, CC BY 4.0, publicly adapted by Supercharged Daily. See
  `licenses/optimus-CREDITS.md` and `licenses/CC-BY-4.0.txt`. The artist's title is
not verification of a production hardware revision. Modification: decoded
standard Draco geometry, losslessly converted source texture pixels for the
importer, sampled outward-visible exterior surfaces, mapped texture materials
to this illustration's palette and quantized to particles.
- `car.bin`: “2024 Tesla Model 3” by RBLXSupercars, also crediting download-page
uploader brandonleong28, CC BY 4.0. See `licenses/model3-CREDITS.md` and
  `licenses/CC-BY-4.0.txt`. Source pinned at
  `erictfree/Carbon-Footprint-AI-Visualizer@af4bef33ca371b24c1f043486f09a13571f4919b`.
Modification: sampled outward-visible surfaces, removed buried/interior
samples, assigned illustrative blue paint/material roles and quantized to
particles. Neither artist mesh is official Tesla manufacturing CAD.
- `rover.bin` and `ai.bin`: original procedural assemblies authored for Between
Bits and Bolts, covered by the repository license. The binocular-eyed tracked
rover is an illustrative WALL-E-inspired form.

Spot, UR5e and X2 come from Google DeepMind MuJoCo Menagerie revision
`98a70c569c4c1b6da467a20012f766ee1f8dc521`, using each model's own license.
No endorsement by the manufacturers or model authors is implied.

`manifest.json` records output SHA-256 hashes. The binary format is `HPM1`, a
little-endian uint32 count, then 10 bytes per point: three int16 positions at
1/128 world unit, three int8 unit-normal components at 1/127, and a uint8 palette
role. Rebuild instructions and primary source links are in the repository's
`docs/particle-hero.md` and `docs/2026-11-08-particle-hero-model-sources.md`.
